“Get busy with the Fizzy”

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

The much talked about SodaStream drinks maker is finally here at Go-Electrical! The Pure drinks maker is finished in sleek stainless steel, enabling it to fit into the styling of most kitchens, while the Genesis drinks maker is slim and compact making it perfect for smaller kitchens.

If you are anything like me, you will have memories of using a SodaStream machine as a child, and the fascination of creating your own fizzy drinks. Back then, the flavours weren’t so great, and were absolutely loaded with sugar, not good for small children really, but today SodaStream has been dramatically improved upon, and there are now over 60 flavours (including sugar free), and the drinks makers are now stylish and compact.

In 1903 Guy Gilbey (of the London Gin dynasty) invented the first SodaStream machine, and it was the beginning of home-carbonation. The machines were very large, and expensive, and were used in the large homes of British aristocrats by their butlers. As the idea caught on, the product evolved and became smaller and more affordable for the average home, and soon many households were using SodaStream. Today, Sodastream is sold all over the world, and here the UK it is going through a bit of resurgence, after the re-invention of the brand.

The snobs amongst you may turn your noses up at the thought of owning a SodaStream drinks maker, but the SodaStream system means you can carbonate water and create flavoured carbonated beverages in your own home, and there are many reasons why these well-known products should have a place in every home;

*Convenience: No need to carry heavy bottles from the store. The SodaStream system is simple to use and requires no batteries or electricity.
*Environmentally-Friendly: SodaStream minimizes the huge eco-footprint caused by the manufacture, transport and waste of plastic bottles.
*Variety: SodaStream offers over 60 flavours worldwide to suit everyone’s taste. Regular, diet, natural, fruity flavours, ice tea, energy drinks, sport drinks, tonic and many more.
*Space Saver: No need to store bottles of beverages or empty bottles for recycling in your home.
*Personalisation: Make drinks just the way you love them… more bubbles, less bubbles, sweeter or lighter, even create your own flavor!
*Family Fun: The system is quick and easy to use. It’s fun for everyone and kids just love it!
*Value for Money: Great savings compared to pre-packed carbonated water and beverages. You can get 10 litres of UK tap water for a penny – that’s the equivalent of 5 large plastic supermarket bottles.

When you purchase a SodaStream, you get two SodaStream bottles to be used with your drinks maker. These are usually screw top (depending on the model you choose), and each bottle has a lifespan of 3 years. The bottles are extremely durable (they have to be to hold super fizzy drinks), and can be placed in the fridge to get your sparkling water lovely and cold.  You also receive a full CO2 gas cylinder in your starter pack. When the gas in the cylinder is used up, you can simply exchange the empty cylinder for a full one, paying only the cost of the gas refill. Easy-peasey.

British supermodel and environmentalist Erin O’Connor (instantly recognizable from recent M&S and Toni & Guy adverts, amongst other things) has teamed up with SodaStream to launch “A World Without Bottles”. This is a campaign to raise awareness of plastic bottle waste and its devastating effects on the environment. Annually, a British household will get through approx. 500 plastic bottles most of which are not recycled, and according to new research 42% of British adults believe they only use between one and five plastic bottles each week – in fact the real figure is nearer ten a week! Sodastream is committed to reducing bottle waste, and the reusable bottles designed to be used with the SodaStream drinks maker can save 2000 bottles and cans in their 3 year lifespan.

Here at Go-Electrical we have the Pure and Genesis SodaStream models, and prices start from £59.99. Check them out today, and start saving money and the environment – you know it makes sense.

Which? Award winner

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

Bosch has just been awarded the prestigious WHICH? Award for ‘Best Large Home Appliance Brand for 2011’. This has been awarded in the year that Bosch celebrates turning 125 years old.

The range of products that Bosch manufactures is truly epic. They manufacture things for the automotive industry, industry and trade as well as the domestic appliances we all know and love, such as irons, vacuums, fridge freezers and power tools. Surprisingly, Bosch even create parts for wind turbines – the powertrains that are driven by the huge rotor blades are manufactured by Bosch. Betcha didn’t know that did you?

Here at Go-Electrical we have a selection of Bosch products including the new Styline kettles and toasters. The new Styline kettle not only looks great but it uses the latest technology available to provide precise temperature control, so you can get your water at the right temperature for herbal and fruit teas, and different coffees. It also has a great ‘keep warm’ function, which means that there is no need to repeatedly boil the kettle as it maintains the selected water temperature for up to 30 minutes. Great if you live in a household that is addicted to “brews” – less boiling, means less energy used, which in turn saves you money.

The Styline kettles and toasters are available in black and white (from £56.90)

There is also a great range of Bosch vacuum cleaners available. These great cylinder vacuums are very reliable, and there are bagless models as well as traditional bag-taking machines. At the moment selected Bosch vacuums are on offer while stock lasts, so why not take a look at what is available? One of the best sellers is the BSG8PRO1GB – It has a top of the range compressor motor, which is guaranteed for 10 years, and it comes with a professional starter pack of accessories to get you up and running as soon as you get it out of the box.

Nespresso training

Monday, July 18th, 2011

On Wednesday 6th July, Mel from Nespresso visited our Settle shop to give us all some training in Nespresso and the related products. Nespresso is a coffee company who design coffee machines, and specialise in getting the perfect cup of coffee from these machines. Here at Go-Electrical, we have the Magimix coffee machines that Nespresso have designed, and that take the Nespresso coffee ‘capsules’.

Mel demonstrated our biggest seller – the Magimix 11300. This machine has the Nespresso Aeroccino with it, and is incredibly easy to use, as we discovered. The M190 Citiz & Milk (11300) is designed with technology and ease of use in mind, so that making your perfect coffee is effortless. With the Magimix Nespresso coffee maker range all you have to do is select one of the Nespresso capsules, push the handle down and turn it on. No effort at all to say that the result is such a great cup of coffee.

Nespresso have a range of 16 different blends of coffee capsules, and they bring out limited edition blends twice a year – such as caramel at Christmas. Mmmmmm! The coffee (along with accessories such as the stylish glass cups) can be bought from the Nespresso Club online or over the phone.

The Nespresso Club offers personalised advice on everything coffee and coffee machine related. Capsules are sold in sleeves of 10, and prices per capsule differ between 29p and 33p depending on the blend chosen. There are special offers available when the capsules are bought in bulk, and the capsules are delivered direct to your door. When an order is placed, the capsules are delivered within 2 working days, and Nespresso now offer a recycling service where they will collect your empty aluminium capsules and take them away for recycling when they deliver your coffee.

Mel let us try some of the tasty coffee, and from the 16 different varieties of capsule to choose from we tried ‘Roma’, ‘Capriccio’ and ‘Vivalto Lungo’. ‘Roma’ is a stronger blend for espresso and latte, but obviously can be used in other kinds of coffee drinks. If you are a fan of decaf coffee then don’t feel left out – there are three different blends available depending on whether you prefer your decaf strong or weak.

The Magimix M190 is definitely a great appliance that every coffee lover will adore, and with its aesthetically pleasing design it will fit into any kitchen beautifully. Features of the M190 Citiz & Milk (11300) are as follows;

Polti Steam Irons

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

Polti was established in 1978 by Franco Polti, when he created the Vaporella – the first steam iron with separate boiler for domestic use. With Vaporella, Polti opened up a new market and today Polti sells more than 10 million appliances every year in Europe alone.

Vaporella meant that households could iron to a professional level because of the super-powerful, ultra-fine jet of steam. The jet was so powerful that it removed every last crease and wrinkle from clothes before the iron soleplate even touched the fabric!

The original technology that Franco Polti came up with has only been improved on, and the professional results achieved in 1978 are even better today;

* The holes of Vaporella irons are concentrated at the tip of the plate, and are placed in a certain formation. This design means that the iron is only required to be passed over garmets once, instead of numerous times.

* The pressure of the dry steam created by the iron, gently infiltrates the materials fibres and effortlessly removes any creases. This powerful dry steam means that it is possible to iron folded sheets or multiple layers of fabric, quickly and effectively. The irons hot sole plate dries the fabric, and ensures that the smoothness created by the steam is fixed.

* Polti iron soleplates are made from either Aluminium or Ceramic (on the new Focus models). Aluminium is an excellent heat conductor and heat is distributed evenly. This means that clothes are less likely to get damaged by excessive heat, and the iron can be used for extended periods of time. Ceramic is commonly used for hair appliances such as straighteners and curling wands, and it has anti-stick and anti-scratch properties. Again, this kind of soleplate can get to very high temperatures for extended periods, and not damage fabrics.

*All iron handles are ergonomically designed with comfort in mind. Polti is famous for producing irons with cork handles, and this is because cork is naturally ultra-lightweight and is very insulating so it is safe and comfortable. If they do not have a cork handle, the irons will have a soft-touch handle that is heat resistant and comfortable to grip.

Go-Electrical is a Polti approved internet retailer, and offers you Polti appliances at some brilliant prices. At the moment the Vaporella Fashion Silver iron, the Vaporella Forever 600 and the Forever 1400 Focus are on sale for unbeatable prices.

The Fashion Silver has a boiler volume of 1 litre and is capable of producing up to 70g/min of steam and 3.5 bar of pressure. It has the traditional Polti cork handle and aluminium sole plate.

The Forever 600 has 3 level electronic steam adjustment, and continuous refill feature meaning you can just keep ironing and ironing. It has a soft touch handle, removable water tank and produces up to 100g/min of steam.

The Forever 1400 Focus is one of the new irons launched earlier this year. It features a ceramic soleplate, a stylish ergonomic soft touch handle and automatic cable winder. It can produce 5 bar of steam pressure and 150g/min of steam. It also has a built in no-calc system and can be continuously refilled.

Juice, Juicy, Juicier…

Monday, July 4th, 2011

In the past few years there has been a lot of talk about the benefits that juicing can have, and how good it is for a healthy body. I have never really paid any attention before, believing that fruit and vegetable juice was thick, green and a bit stomach churning but I have recently discovered that this is definitely not the case. There are some very tasty recipes around, and it makes a change that something is extremely good for you, actually tastes good!

The benefits of juicing:

Juicing fruit and vegetables means that your body can absorb larger amounts of nutrients more effectively. The body doesn’t need to digest the food so the vitamins and minerals in the juice are absorbed quicker than usual.

If you think about the ‘five a day’ advise, you have to eat the recommended portion size of five different things every day. With juicing you use more fruit and vegetables than you can actually probably eat – its relatively easy to drink enough juice to obtain sufficient amounts of powerful nutrients, especially because juicing makes them so concentrated.

Fresh fruit and vegetables contain lots of brilliant enzymes – enzymes increase your metabolic rate, which means you can burn calories faster. Brilliant if you are trying to lose weight.

We all know how important the liver is, and juicing is a great way of looking after your liver. Certain nutrients are needed to help the liver detoxify, and seen as though the liver has over 700 functions it’s a good idea to look after it! Antioxidents beta-carotene, vitamin C and E and N-acetyle cysteine are all potent liver cleansers, and are all found in fruit and vegetables.

Not only that, the antioxidants from fruit and vegetables contain a wide range of plant chemicals called phytochemicals, and these amazing things been found to have anti-cancer properties.

Vitamin C, E, potassium and magnesium are important for improving the cardiovascular system, and maintaining a healthy heart. Blackberries, kiwi, asparagus and spinach and incredibly rich in all these things – now when would you ever eat those four things together normally? Juicing means it is easier (and probably tastier) to do just that.

Now, be honest, did you know all that about juicing? No, me neither!

Go-Electrical currently have juicers by Dualit and Magimix at brilliant prices, so don’t hesitate in buying one – just think of your health!  The Dualit 88305 is well built and sturdy, it has a large feeding tube which allows for minimum effort, and it features an extra capacity jug. The Magimix juicers come in standard, XL or XL Plus, and are not only available in black and silver, but red, cream and white too. As you would expect with Magimix products they are well made and very reliable.

Once you have purchased your new juicer, why not try one of these tasty recipes to give yourself a boost of energy and kick start better health. Tasty, easy and incredibly good for you!

Fantastic radios from Roberts

Friday, July 1st, 2011

Roberts Radio Ltd was founded in 1932 by Harry Roberts and Leslie Bidmead. Since then company has grown slowly but surely and today Roberts radios are sold around the world, from Japan to USA.

In the 75 years the company has been making radios, Roberts has formed a reputation for producing quality radios that are extremely reliable and innovative. That is why today there are approximately 2000 shops throughout the UK that stock, and sell, Roberts radios – including the now iconic Revival radio (see earlier blog posts), which is instantly recognizable, and very stylish.

Roberts created the “first truly portable DAB/WiFi radio” when they made the Stream 202, and the “world’s first Solar DAB radio”, which not only looks good but is kind to the environment. In fact, Roberts have a range of radios which are eco friendly – these products are energy efficient as they have increased battery life and reduced power consumption. For example, the Ecologic Gemini21 has up to 150 hours of battery life, and the new Expression runs for up to 100 hours on its battery – that means these portable radios can be used in the garden, or taken on picnics to the park or beach, and there is no fear of your summer soundtrack running out midway through the day!

All products are packaged using cardboard made from recycled waste paper, and can of course by recycled again. Roberts Radio also has a fantastic repair centre, so if your radio does break (very rare) then it can be sent away and fixed, instead of being thrown away. All this means you can do your bit to save the environment, but the best bit is that it all saves you money, and we all know how precious pennies are these days!

Roberts radios and accessories are available from Go-Electrical and start from just £20.90 for a clock radio. Bargain!
