Ice-cream for the summer ahead…

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

The sun is finally shining, the temperatures are slowly rising and the clocks change at the weekend so it means just one thing – Summer is on its way! Hurrah!

I know every year we all get really excited at the prospect of the sun shining continuously from April until September, or the fact that Mr Weatherman promises Indian summer temperatures, but then the good ol’ British weather lets us down and it rains or is freezing cold, but this year I’ve decided to make the most of whatever weather we are dealt (while keeping my fingers crossed for sun of course), and to do this I have decided that I am going to invest in an ice-cream maker. Yes, you heard me correctly, an ice-cream maker – my reasoning behind this decision is as follows;

1 – I like ice-cream. Simple.

2- During summer, being stuck inside an office, I average at least 4 ice-creams a week from May to August, that’s 64 (excluding ice lollies) in 4 months. An ice-cream cone costs £1.10 if not more – that means I spend almost £71 on ice-cream. Crikey! By buying an ice-cream maker, I would definitely save money in the long run.

3- I almost always have a tub of a very famous American duos ice-cream in my freezer, and unless it is on special offer at my local supermarket that is also a lot of money spent on ice-cream. Ooops! Please don’t tell my other half!

4- With an ice-cream maker you don’t just have to stick to vanilla, chocolate or strawberry flavours, the possibilities are endless – especially if you fancy yourself as a bit of a Heston Blumenthal wanna-be…bacon and egg ice-cream anyone?

5- If the weather doesn’t live up to expectations, and it’s wet and miserable then I will be able to close the curtains and eat ice-cream imagining that I am laid on some far-flung exotic beach.

6- How impressed are my friends and family going to be when they pop round for a BBQ and I bring out home-made ice–cream? As I am not known for being a domestic goddess, the answer to that is, VERY!

Have I convinced you that this is a brilliant idea yet? Well, if not, maybe we should take a look at some of the ice-cream makers available…

The Magimix Le Glacier is easy to use, just pre-freeze the bowl for 8-12 hours and it then just takes 20 minutes to make the ice cream. The large feed tube and the see through lid that comes with the ‘Le Glacier’, mean that you are able to pour in the ingredients, while checking to see if your creation is ready or not.

The Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker Deluxe allows you to make ice cream, frozen yoghurt, sorbets and frozen drinks. Simply place the detachable 2 litre freezer bowl into your freezer the night before using it and the next day you can have a healthy and versatile dessert in just twenty to thirty minutes. Fully automatic, simply fill the bowl with your desired mixture and press on, and the open lid allows ingredients to be added while in motion.

The Magimix Gelato Chef is a top of the range model with a built-in freezer unit so there is no pre-freezing required. You simply turn it on, stick in the ingredients and after 20 minutes, you have ice cream. If you want large batches of ice cream, then this is the model you definitely want. It comes with a detachable inner bowl and a paddle to make one batch, then you can do another in the fixed bowl which also has a paddle as well, this way you can make multiple batches even quicker.

Go on, admit it, I’ve convinced you that making your own ice-cream is the way forward! If you have decided that my way of thinking is maybe not as bonkers as you first thought, why not take a look at the full range of ice-cream makers that Go-Electrical has to offer? Go on, just think of the summer!

ENJOY THE SUMMER WITH FABULOUS PRODUCTS

Heard of Cuisinart yet?

Monday, May 16th, 2011

If you have read this blog before, you may be aware that I easily fall in love with different brands and products. Well, this blog is dedicated to Cuisinart simply because I love their products! So fickle, I know.

The Cuisinart brand specialises in small kitchen appliances, and they are massive in the USA with over 30 years of market prominence. In fact it is not unusual for a food processor to be called a “cuisinart” whether it is one or not! Cuisinart was founded by American Carl Sontheimer while he was living in France in the 1970s. In 1973 the first Cuisinart food processor was launched on the American market, and the brand was backed by famous food experts James Beard and Julia Child.

In 2003 Cuisinart was launched on the UK market, and although the brand is not yet as well known as Magimix, it is definitely making people think twice about which brand to use in their kitchens. Personally, I have the Cuisinart Espresso Maker on my wish list, and a Burr grinder to match. My mum on the other hand is pining for the award winning Soup Maker (Housewares Product of the Year 2010). Here at Go-Electrical we have a wide range of Cuisinart products from Multi Temperature Kettles to Griddles, Ice cream Makers to Pan Sets.

The Cuisinart Espresso Maker is fantastic for making great-tasting espresso, cappuccino, latte or any other coffee… Great if you are a coffee freak like me! With it you can make high quality coffee inside your own home, without the large costs of paying for it at a shop. It has a large 2 litre removable water tank, so you can make plenty of hot beverages without being interrupted. With 15 bar pump pressure system the espresso maker creates the perfect crema and flavour and the best bit is that it smells absolutely amazing! Anyone selling their house?

This machine is programmable so it can be pre-set with the desired cup strength and size, which means your daily wake up is just how you like it, every time. The stainless steel frothing arm that is built into the machine can create rich, creamy hot frothed milk in a matter of seconds, and it also comes with a hot water function so that you can also make tea.

Cuisinart products have great guarantee periods – the Espresso Maker has a 3 year guarantee, while the Burr Grinder has 5 years. The large food processors (which are fabulous by the way) have a massive 20 year guarantee on the motor! That is much more than other food processors (8 years more than Magimix!), and proves how confident Cuisinart are in the standard of their product.

As summer is upon us (well, we were hoping that it was but the sun seems to have gone) Cuisinart has some great products to make your summer a whole let better, whether it rains or not. With the Griddle & Grill you can get that BBQ feel indoors if you need to. This great appliance is award winning and is designed with healthy eating in mind. The grill plates allow the user to cook food while draining any excess fat off. The grill plates are also interchangeable which means you can switch between the griddling and grilling. The product can be a panini press so the kids won’t get bored of the same boring sandwiches during the summer holidays. The great thing about this appliance though is the way you can use it in different positions – you can adjust the machine to either be used as a grill press or lay it out to get double grill/griddle plates, fantastic! This means that if you really want to deep fill your paninis or put one or two thick beef steaks on the grill, then by using the adjustable floating hinge it gives you a bigger gap for you to grill with. Brilliant!

How about making some ice cream for the kids? And some tasty, fruity smoothies (or cocktails for the grow ups)? Well, grab yourself one of the fabulous Cuisinart ice-cream makers or their brilliant blender. The Elite Power Blender gives you total control over the taste and texture of your creations as the unique 6 edge blades ensure that all food is properly blended, and with the glass jug having a large 1.75 litre capacity you can serve all your guests without any fuss. The brilliantly heavy-duty blades combined with the powerful motor crushes ice in seconds which means you can serve your margaritas frozen or on the rocks, mmmmm yummy!

Here’s one of my favourite summer non-alcoholic cocktails, it is so refreshing when sunbathing. To get a BBQ party started just add some vodka or white rum.

Ingredients;

55ml fresh lime juice

1 cucumber, peeled and seeded, cut into 2cm pieces

800g seedless watermelon, cut into 2.5cm pieces

15g fresh mint leaves

Method;

Place all the ingredients in to the blender in the order listed.

Cover and blitz

Add some ice, and blitz again

Turn the power off,  serve in tall glasses with straws and umbrellas and enjoy the sunshine!

Visit the Go-Electrical Cuisinart page to view all the great products that are available at great prices. From pans to kettles, and soup makers to rice cookers there is no doubt in my mind that you will find something that you would like to have in your kitchen. Cuisinart are well made and reliable, and I’m told that once you have used one of their products you will want them all!
